Nathan believes that creating a strong trusting therapeutic relationship is the first step to positive change. Nathan seeks to create a caring and supportive atmosphere in which every person can explore all elements of themselves. Nathan believes that unconditional positive regard is crucial to clients’ healing and self-exploration therefore he approaches everything you bring into session nonjudgmentally and with curiosity.
Nathan realizes each patient seeking care has a unique life experience, therefore he works to adapt his therapy approach to the client’s needs. Nathan is well trained in art therapy, a practice that acts as a catalyst for emotional expression and acts to expedite the therapeutic process through artistic inquiry. Don’t fret, clients do not need to be artists to do art therapy. Nathan uses mindfulness practices to pull into what the client is experiencing in the moment, and how it is showing up in the therapeutic relationship. These things help to identify emotions, thinking patterns and behaviors to build awareness of how the client relates to others. Nathan also works in a trauma informed manner in which he recognizes areas of traumatic retention in the client and offers a space to release this tension in a healthy way. Nathan believes this release of tension is where true healing comes from in therapy. Additional therapeutic approaches Nathan uses are cognitive behavioral therapy, gestalt art therapy, and solution focused therapy.
